A. Ursyn Orchestra / Cellist Philip
Previous Home Next Back to Lorenzo

Philip has two frequently reccuring dreams: the first one gives him a feeling of a need to run fast while his legs would not move. The other one is about a big plate with a cold dinner that lays on his belly and he cannot eat it. It troubles him. He used to discuss this topic in his lengthy conversations with Daniel (cello). They keep discussing unusual scenarios of why he has to run and what is on the plate.

The Cello

The four foot cello has a big range of five octaves. Like other string instruments, the cello's wood is weathered naturally to give it the best possible tone.

When the cello was first introduced, it was not very popular. It wasn't until the 17th century. Ludwig van Beethoven started experimenting with it.

Some things to note about the cello are that if a cellist changes to different strings while playing, it sounds choppy. Also the fingerings are not the same as the viola and violin.

Some cello pieces are:

Brahms: Concerto for Violin and Cello
Stravinsky: Firebird Suite
