Locked in the elevator

Lute

Christine was on her way to participate in a performance. She hoped that playing with the great musicians in the Orchestra would create a big chance for her. She got trapped in an elevator; it was hard for her to concentrate. She did not see other people standing within her reach. She tried not to panic. She tried to make a phone call. Christine started to think of all the elevator jokes, just not to relax. Organizing her thoughts was the best tactic she could think of.

Suddenly all became clear and calm. She could visualize the whole composition she was to play. All of a sudden it became all she could think about. At that moment the rescue team showed up, fixed the elevator, and she was free. She reached backstage after the performance had already begun. She hesitated. The announcer, who was aware of the situation, waited till the closest break and then introduced her performance as a special section of the concert. All the thoughts, fear and anxiety had transferred into a beautiful flow of music. It was her best solo ever.
