There
was a girl who could not pay rent,
So she learned to play an instrument,
Well was not how she played,
And her strings were soon frayed,
But for her effort, money was lent.

Kate,
aside from playing and being involved in the Orchestra life, served on the
council of the City's Art program. She sat at lengthy meetings filled with
reviews, discussions, and often some disagreements. She felt responsible
for the quality of the cultural activities for the city. There was a big
discussion whether or not to host more or less expensive local performances
or to promote visiting artists. The real problem was that the visiting artists
did not want to leave, thus they were becoming local and the Orchestra grew
bigger and bigger.
