The automotive industry uses the elements of design in every product they produce.
Cars come in all different colors. Henry Ford said the model 'T' would be sold in
any color, as long as it was black. Times have changed quit a bit! Color chooses
for a car can make or break the sales. And it's not so much the 'color' so much as
the tone of the color. Almost every car comes in red. But there is a difference
between bright red and burgundy. The auto industry must examine their market
for the individual product and decide which color value will be most appealing to
that audience.
Shape and form are also key. No one wants an unsightly car. (However, the
Honda element has done quite well {that's a joke}) the shape of a car cannot
only affect the buyer’s response, but also performance. if a car is not aerodynamic
it will get poor gas mileage, if the car is too high off of the ground the vehicle
might role over.
Space is another key ingredient of a successful car. The passenger and driver
must have adequate room in the car, and the trunk space must be practical. Now,
because of government crash test regulations, there must also be enough room
in the front end to absorb a crash without harming the passengers.
Line is a part of Shape and Form in the auto industry. A out of place line could
ruin the esthetic of a car. I love, and drive a mustang. Mine is a 1998. In 1999
they redesigned it and gave it hard slanting angles, as opposed o the smooth
angles of the '98's. In my opinion the '99 to '04 body styles are ugly and
sloppy.
Texture is another ingredient which can't be overlooked. The owners of
vehicles spend 99% of their time inside the car traveling. the wrong fabric or
dash texture can make for an uncomfortable experience.
Balance is also important when it comes to the interior. The instrument Custer in
the dash is a key component, thus it needs to be appealing to the eye. The eye
looks for order in groups. If the eye struggles to find order it will take the drivers
concentration away from the road. VW has created a purple and orange gauge
cluster. They say purple and orange are more appealing to the eyes, and less
likely to cause fatigue during night time driving.
Emphasis is interesting in the auto industry. Some companies will place
emphasis on a new radical design, yet others place emphasis on the name-
sake. either way that emphasis is what the company is marketing.
Movement is vital, both in a physical and visual since. Movement is the
combination of elements in the finished package. That's what I didn't like about
the '99 Mustang. The front end was nice, but it looked like they just slapped on a
different car after the door. The movement wasn't fluid.
Variety and contrast is what separates a Ford from a Chevy, and Porsche from a
BMW. Each company has its own style and trademark features. For BMW its
their 'kidney grill' on the front end of all of their products. For Porsche its the
round headlights and heart stopping performance that separates them from the
rest.
Proportion doesn’t seem to mean what it use to in the auto industry. SUV's are
becoming bigger while the family cars remain the same. This has caused an
increase in horrendous highway accidents. Ford has conformed bumper heights.
Thus if a SUV resends a sedan their bumpers will hit each other and do its job.
Unity is the goal. Proper unity means big sales and top quality. Not every
company has achieved this, but all strive too.
Nutritionists – Florian and Fabian used to fulfil all the needs of the Orchestra members. They were ready for any occasion or any difficult situation, such as a throat related problem of an opera singer. They were aware that knowledge about what's good for you was changing and it was hard to catch up. At first they kept saying, “Eat an apple with the skin, all the vitamins are there,” and then they reversed it to “ Eat only peeled apples, they have all the pesticides on their skin.” The food pyramid was to be followed, even after it was totally inverted. Florian and Fabian said, “Hard to say when we harm people rather then helping them, if we keep following what is current in the nutrition theory. The worst part is preparing snacks for parties: IS THERE ANY FOOD THAT NO ONE IS ALLERGIC TO?”
