They were probably the last ones working in the office. Their
cubicles were clean and not much really was needed to furnish each one: just
a table. Everything else was built into the partition walls, in the form of
the controlling, communicating and calculating devices, along with some of
their personal decorations. Their function was to oversee the aesthetic quality
of life of average citizen. They’d make sure that the rain was pouring
on a regular basis, to water the lawns when most of the citizens were asleep.
Also, that the lights were on when it was getting dark. They’d control
all sorts of culture: the quality of the TV programs, (by creating statics
the moment something was less then appropriate), movies, concerts, exhibitions,
online exercise programs, or even the noise level of distant conversations.
What bothered them all was a lack of windows on their floors, so they would
actually see the results of their work.
