Gymnasts were an important part of many performances: from theater plays, and ballet operas to concerts that needed some visual impact to keep the audience coming. There were high expectations, of course, so there was a need to train them. The youngsters were paired with the professionals for practices and even performances. They practiced, and then performed what they had practiced.
