There were many drummers in the group. They often toured playing for a group they were all part of. Sometimes, all of them were needed on a tour. all of them. Othertimes there was a need for a drummer during the Orchestra performance, when the drummers were on the road. Director Gerlost came up with a solution. He hired an actor to pretend that he was playing drums. He was directed to play really fast and be spectacular, but instead of using an actual instrument, he’d beat empty drum top. This way there would be no sound, only impressive action. Gerlost and Norman had doubts. One day, they decided to do an experiment. They lowered ticket prices for those who’d be willing to fill out a survey. One of the questions was to list all the instruments played during the performance. Ninety three percent of the responders listed drums, though there were three responders.
